Visa

The Republic of Ghana welcomes visitors from 14 countries in West Africa for conferences/tourism for short periods without prior application for a visa.

If you are a Participant from the ECOWAS-member states, namely, Benin, Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, Cote d’Ivoire, The Gambia, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, and Togo, you are exempted from obtaining visas before entering Ghana. However, you must present your Passport for examination at the entry points and fill forms (Arrival) at your port of entry to Ghana and present them to the relevant officials.

KEEPING HEALTHY IN ACCRA
Make sure to take your anti-malaria vaccine and/or pills before travelling, to avoid malaria. Take the usual precautions for travelers to Ghana. All visitors to Ghana are required to have a valid certificate of immunisation against Yellow Fever (known as “Yellow Card”) and this is checked on arrival at the Airport.

YELLOW FEVER CERTIFICATE

Required Entry Information
Yellow Fever Certificate: A valid yellow fever vaccination certificate is required for all travelers aged 9 months or older entering Ghana. Without this proof, you may be vaccinated upon arrival, quarantined, or denied entry.

Vaccination Fee: Depending on Passenger’s country of origin, the fee is as follows: 20 Euros, 20 US dollars, 15 GBP

Participants from African Union (AU) member states who are not ECOWAS nationals traveling by air, may obtain a visa on arrival after the payment of the required visa fee.

Also, if you are of a different national other than ECOWAS or AU, you can apply for a visa from Ghana’s embassy or high commission in your home country.

Similarly, holders of diplomatic/Service passports of selected countries, persons in direct airside transit, as well as holders of official passports of some specialized agencies listed in the Visa Regime of Ghana are exempt from obtaining a visa.

BY ROAD

If you are a Participant from the ECOWAS member-states, you are exempted from obtaining visas before entering Ghana. However, you must present your Passport or valid Identity Card for examination at the port of entry.

ENTRY VISA REQUIREMENT FOR GHANA

  • Applicants should be legally resident in the country where Ghana’s Mission is sited
  • Applicants’ passport photographs should have been taken not more than three months prior to the date of submission.
  • Applicants should attach a copy of a return ticket or print-out of travel itinerary
  • An international certificate of vaccination for Yellow Fever
  • Applicant’s passport must have validity of at least six (6) months
